The hat has been in a single family and passed down since 1770-1800 and has been carefully preserved by the family as an airloom. The hat was traded on an iowa reservation sometime between the late 1700's to 1800's by the clemm family as they were claiming stake on a new piece of land. The clemm family served in the american revolution and moved from ohio to iowa in coverd wagons. Thye had made contact and relationship with the iowa indian tribe and were given that hat as a gift. The hat was made for a child and from the details on the hat we are told it would have been made from a noble or son of leadership from the tribe. A letter taht has also been passed down will also be given along with the hat. The iowa indains owned the missoure to mississippi river area from before the english arrived through the late 1800's were they were removed from the land to make room fro the expanding western civilaizations. Only a few thing remain from this time, era, and culture.

Most famous is the dirt mounds that were used for shelter that can still be found in the mississippi river valley. This hat is 100% hand made with natural materials including leaves that were used for insulation on the inside. The art work (bead work) is extrrodinary in detail and craftmanship. This item would make a tremendous collectino for the serious collector or museum.

We hope that you will enjoy this tremendous and exsquit piece of history, culture, crafmtenship and art. Although the hat has been carefully preserved, it is very old and could not have been without flaw. The bead work is great, but some beads are missing. The leaves on the interior of the hat have also since been dried and breaking.
